It’s true, we are towards the pricier end of the scale for tutoring. There are many tutors out there who, as a business or on their own, charge less than us and I wish them every bit of luck. Some of them are good friends. Anyone changing young lives for the better is doing the right thing in my book.
So what makes us different?
Quality as standard
Well, for a start all our tutors are qualified and experienced teachers. You can find a tutor who’s a sixth former or even an undergraduate or someone just good at maths for example, but the students we work best with need experience to pivot when a student needs something specific, maturity to know how to deal with teenage emotions and years of experience to cut to the chase when necessary. Those skills are crucial to Red Bird and crucial to success in students who lack in confidence, have missed chunks of learning or who need to trust the teaching profession again to thrive. We don’t do quick fixes, we nurture; we don’t just ‘get on with it’, we work out what is getting in the way of your child’s success; we don’t take the credit for children’s success, we celebrate every win with them and their newfound confidence.
Value added for students
When you sign up to Red Bird, you become part of our family. That means that we are there for you through thick and thin. As far as your child is concerned, they will get everything we can give them both academically and emotionally and make sure they feel seen and heard. We recently asked our departing students how they would describe Red Bird to a friend and the top three words generated were supportive, friendly and confidence. That makes our heart sing, because those qualities will stay with them far longer than just passing the GCSEs we were preparing them for. We also have links with other trusted professionals who can step in to work with your child should they need it and we are always there for a coaching session if they need an extra boost.
Value added for you
But we’re not just there for our students, we are there for their families too. We are there for advice or support on all manner of matters – from EHCPs to University advice, to emotional support, through to school-based situations – we are there as professionals and experts. We’ve mopped tears, written official letters, attended annual reviews, made calls on people’s behalf and written references. When you join us, we’re there for the ride and you always will be part of the Red Bird family. We are in touch with families who worked with us years ago. It’s great to hear how they are getting on with life and fab that they stay in touch. Oh, and we don’t set homework that you have to mark or take responsibility for. Instead we work with your child to decide what is best for them to do during the week to help themselves.
Investment
We take pride in the fact that everything runs smoothly for families and tutors. Our tutors are our best asset and we want to make sure that they love working for us and stay because they want to. We’ve invested in some robust platforms so that your journey from first enquiry to your child finishing with us is smooth and trouble free for everyone. We have over 30 tutors and up to 100 families with us at any one time, so we need to be on it. A smaller business or a single tutor may not need all these systems, but without them, the stress-free time you have with us wouldn’t exist. The quality of the online platform that we use, means that your child and the tutor waste absolutely no time in their tutoring sessions. No faffing with links, no trying to find work saved elsewhere and all sessions are recorded for everyone’s peace of mind.
Human touch
Many tutoring companies use computer programmes and algorithms to teach their students. Once these programmes have been written, they can be rolled out to any number of students, essentially maximising profits. But we know the value of human interaction and the expertise of real brains 🙂 We need to be able to stop what we are doing and find a new way to make a point, play a game or just talk. People are expensive and rightly so. We think they are the best way to ensure that your child flies. You can ask questions to a person, smile and laugh with them and they can judge whether you need more time, are getting frustrated or have mastered a skill and need to move on.
A bit of love
We love Red Bird Tutoring. We know we have created something special and our many testimonials from students and families agree with this. We also know we’re not for everyone, but if you like and align with our values, we are the tutoring company for your family.
We’re looking forward to meeting you.
