TUTORING FOR SCHOOLS
Whether you’re looking for small group or 1:1 support, we have the perfect tutors for your learners!
Saturday small group sessions at our Dunstable tutoring centre or 1:1 sessions online are an excellent use of your PPG, or CLA funding. Red Bird tutors are kind and caring: we have experience working with learners as support for their EHCP, those on temporary or permanently reduced timetables and other vulnerable learners.
– Secondary School Vice-Principal
Red Bird Tutoring is a group of friendly, qualified and experienced classroom teachers. Many of our tutors are current Heads of Year, Subject Leaders or members of Leadership Teams in local schools – tutors don’t come much more highly trained than ours!
We’re all also trained in the use of coaching techniques so that we can quickly boost confidence, raise engagement and help develop study skills that learners can take back into the classroom.
Simply put, our tutors love to teach. We’re interested in the science behind teaching, we attend conferences and read extensively. We’re proud that our tutors love teaching so much that they also choose to teach with us on a Saturday!
We have worked with Red Bird Tutoring for 4 years now and have been very impressed with their services. The students who we have sent over the years have fed back that they have found the sessions informative and confidence building, and we have seen their grades rise accordingly. The staff are friendly and caring, and they can be very flexible to our specific requirements as a school. We look forward to working with them in the future.

I thought I would just let you know how thankful we are for the Red Bird Intervention that you arranged.
The girls have loved attending the sessions and our whole class is astounded by how much their knowledge of SPAG has improved. We are doing revision at the moment and these two girls are in their element.
They are so motivated and positive and I am delighted in the confidence they have gained. They always wanted to do well in class, and now they are doing well in class.
What a difference this has made to these two, happy, little starfish….
– Year 6 teacher
We were initially worried that our Year 10 students wouldn’t attend group tutoring on a Saturday, but attendance at Red Bird was almost 100%.

What PARENTS are Saying
"Red Bird have been amazing with my Year 11 daughter. She was working at 3/4 in Maths, and today we got her results and are ecstatic to report that she has achieved a 7.
Red Bird can absolutely take credit for this success; they have built her confidence no end over the last 6 months and helped her in the areas she was struggling."
"The difference that Red Bird has made to my son in the few weeks that he has attended has been nothing short of miraculous."
"Red Bird really make the effort to find out what makes each child tick, which is so important when inspiring young people to learn well.
My son willingly gives up a chunk of his valuable loafing time every Saturday morning for his Red Bird sessions - no complaints - and he comes out smiling and happy to tell me what he's been learning.
I consider this very high praise, coming from a teenager and I am happy that his confidence in this subject is growing well in advance of his GCSEs."
"With the help of Red Bird Tutoring, my daughter received an Academic Progress Award today, which would not have been possible without the help, support and care she got from this amazing team. Thank you all so very much."
"We started our son at Red Bird Tutoring in May. He went from and expected grade 2 in Maths to an actual grade 4 obtained. I look back with regret on the missed opportunity I had to start him sooner. Who knows, he could have had a 6 or 7."
"I can't rate Red Bird Tutoring highly enough for their absolute support for my son."
"Huge, huge recommendation. What a special team and approach Red Bird Tutoring have. Sue Michaels and her fab team have literally been a port in the storm for us during lock down. They have been supporting and enhancing home learning for my secondary school child for 7 weeks now. The tutoring has engaged and supported him amazingly and we're so grateful that we found them as a company. The tutors have been so kind and helpful - his confidence has soared. They've been a huge support and a friendly face throughout. Big thanks from us :-)"
"From the first GCSE English language session that my son attended, his confidence has grown."
"My son says he wishes his experience at school was like that at Red Bird. He feels able to ask questions and learn without feeling under pressure."

"The people are very encouraging and do not pressure you to do too much work and yet you still learn so much. Well worth waking up at 7:30 for."
"Everyone here cares about you and your well-being instead of just your school work and grades. It's a positive, joyful environment. No pressure at all and incredibly helpful if you have GCSEs coming up."

Transition from one educational setting to the next is a daunting prospect, often accompanied by a mix of emotions. We spend time talking about this with pupils, particularly in our Summer Booster sessions. Every child is different, but here are some ideas which...
It’s that time of year when revision is in full swing and every child is beavering away in anticipation of their best scores in their GCSEs. Or maybe not. Many schools are now taking the autonomy away from students by doing ‘catch-up’, ‘study’, ‘revision’ classes, so...
There is absolutely no question that screens are part of all our lives and every single teen on the planet has been brought up surrounded by phones and their ever increasing advancement in technology. I didn’t have a phone at all until I started work (I know…) and...
You hear these phrases all the time this time of year and they are well intentioned and often genuine. But this puts a massive amount of pressure onto people to perform, be cheerful and put on a brave face. And that can be tough. We’re human, not AI and the...
I won an award last week 🙂 it was for resilience in business and recognised the grit that it sometimes takes to keep going. Grit is something we try to instill in our students at Red Bird, because, at the end of the day, it is what makes us successful or not. I was...
This year is flying by, isn’t it? We’re suddenly a sixth through the school year and the summer holidays are but a distant memory! So let’s get a plan in place! Firstly, the half term break is a time to recharge. Please help your child to do that by letting them get...
It’s great seeing all the ‘Back to School’ photos on social media - new uniforms (often a little too big), shiny happy (tanned) faces and a fresh new feel to the year. This year, we have the sun too to make everything look a little bit brighter. But how do you...
Sometimes, when everything in your life seems to be geared towards your GCSEs or A-Levels, once they’re over, you can feel a bit lost. Some students will know where they are going next, and some will need to wait and see. So what to do in the meantime? Here’s some...
With the non-fiction exam looming on Monday, here’s a quick rundown on the Persuasive features that you could include to make Question 5 count. I use this mnemonic, although there are a fair few around for this paper. Alliteration Rhetorical questions Repetition...
